6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing


What is Six Sigma? Six Sigma is a highly disciplined process that helps
organizations focus on developing and delivering near-perfect products and
services. Why "Sigma"? The word is a statistical term that measures how
far a given process deviates from perfection. The central idea behind Six
Sigma is that if you can measure how many "defects" you have in a process,
you can systematically figure out how to eliminate them and get as close
to "zero defects" as possible.

Iten's Lean Journey Program - Update

Success breeds success and thus, we are continuing our lean journey. At this time, we have had several people who have black belts in Lean and 6 Sigma. In addition, we have five more employees currently enrolled in the program. The instructor for this training has worked with some of the world’s foremost people in the field of Lean and 6 Sigma. He is coaching and guiding us to help us become the most proficient manufacturer in the state of Ohio.

Lean tools are proven mechanisms by which an organization can take cost out of their operation without sacrificing quality or delivery. Six Sigma methods and analysis tools are designed to acquire profound knowledge of our processes and to drive improved quality and performance. Tools from the two strategies are used in tandem as appropriate during the course of a project. Evidence of these tools is becoming visible here at Iten as our current TOPS teams drive their projects towards completion.
